CAIRO, MAY 22, SPA -- SECRETARY GENERAL OF THE ARAB LEAGUE AMR MOUSA CONFIRMED TODAY THAT THERE ARE POSITIVE SIGNALS FROM ALL INTERNATIONAL POWERS TOWARDS THE ARAB EFFORTS TO ACTIVATE THE ARAB PEACE INITIATIVE ACCORDING TO THE LAST RIYADH SUMMIT RESOLUTIONS. IN A PRESS CONFERENCE HELD HERE TODAY, MOUSA SAID WE ARE WAITING THE OUTCOME OF THE MEETINGS OF THE QUARTET WHICH HAS RECEIVED THE ARAB PROPOSALS. AFTERWARDS, WE ARE GOING TO ASSESS THE RESULTS OF ARAB EFFORTS IN THIS CONCERN, HE SAID, ADDING THAT WE RECEIVED NO RESPONSE FROM THE ISRAELI SIDE. IN RESPONSE TO A QUESTION ON PROMOTING THE ARAB PEACE INITIATIVE IN ISRAEL AS THE ISRAELI FORCES LAUNCH FIERCE ATTACKS ON GAZA STRIP, MOUSA SAID WHAT HAPPENS IN GAZA NECESSITATES A POSITION SINCE BLOOD POURS THERE WHILE POLITICAL ENDEAVORS CONTINUE TO CONTAIN THE OCCUPATION ISSUE AND FIND AN END TO IT. THE TWO EFFORTS GO PARALLEL, HE CONFIRMED, ADDING THAT IF NEGOTIATIONS START WITH ISRAEL, IT WOULD BE WITH THE PARTIES CONCERNED. WE ARE NOT GOING TO NEGOTIATE ON BEHALF OF THE PALESTINIANS, HE SAID, EXPLAINING THAT THE PALESTINIANS NEGOTIATE FOR THEMSELVES AND THE SYRIANS NEGOTIATE FOR THEMSELVES. IN RESPONSE TO A QUESTION, MOUSA CATEGORICALLY DENIED REPORTS THAT THERE IS ARAB SUPPORT FOR A PALESTINIAN FACTION AT THE EXPENSE OF THE OTHER."THIS IS TOTALLY REJECTED BY ALL ARAB COUNTRIES", HE SAID, ADDING THAT ALL PALESTINIAN FACTIONS RECEIVE ALL KINDS OF SUPPORT ON THE SAME FOOTING.--SPA www.spa.gov.sa/452194
