ISLAMABAD, MAY 13, SPA -- The number of dead in Saturday's bloody mayhem in Karachi shot up to 36, police said. More than 150 persons were wounded in the clashes between pro- and anti-government activists when dysfunctional Supreme Court Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry arrived in Karachi to address the Sindh High Court Bar Association. More than 150 cars, buses and motorcycles were torched in the clashes. Most of the dead belonged to the opposition parties. A few hailed from the government's ally, Muthidda Qaumi Movement (MQM). Advisor to the Sindh Chief Minister on Home Affairs Wasim Akhtar, who belonged to the MQM, said six of the dead persons were MQM workers.
