Islamabad, May 23, SPA -- Visiting Italian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Dr. Massimo D Alema has met President General Pervez Musharraf, says an official statement. D'Alema reiterated Italy's support to Pakistan in its bid for a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with the European Union and said Rome would not like Pakistan to be discriminated against. The President said Pakistan was seeking market access to the European Union like other South Asian countries and that the European Union should not discriminate against Pakistan on this score. Musharraf said Pakistan wanted greater market access especially through a Free Trade Agreement with the European Union which would help the country in its fight against terrorism and extremism particularly in terms of poverty alleviation and reducing unemployment. D'Alema discussed with the President growing Pakistan-Italy bilateral relationship in diverse fields.
