Cairo, March 29, SPA - Egyptian newspapers today gave prominence to the 19th Arab summit currently held in Riyadh. The press described the summit as one of the most serious and important of Arab summits, since it is convened in a very critical and sensitive phase with regard to local, regional and international developments. The papers drew attention to the most important topics discussed by the summit, including the Lebanese crisis which had now international and regional dimensions, as well as the Iraqi cause and Iran's nuclear program. The press also said the Palestinian cause is the most important topic facing the summit, since it won a new international momentum after Israel's announcement that it accepts the Arab peace initiative which calls for a complete Israeli withdrawal from all occupied Arab territories in 1967 in return for full normalization of ties. The press said the summit is convened in the wake of intensive U.S. efforts to revive the peace process and start Palestinian-Israeli negotiations after years of stalemate. The press pointed out that there is a general agreement in the Arab and international arenas to settle crises and achieve the aspired aims through negotiations, notably the establishment of the Palestinian independent state with Al-Quds as its capital, in addition to the return of refugees according to UN resolutions.-- SPA www.spa.gov.sa/436591
