Bush returns to G-8 after stomach ailment forces him to miss meetings

HEILIGENDAMM, Germany, JUNE 8, SPA -- A stomach ailment forced U.S. President George W. Bush to miss some meetings at aninternational summit on Friday, but after resting in hisroom, he rejoined the gathering and prepared for talks inPoland on a missile defense system, REPORTED AP. «He feels well enough to continue with his fullactivities,» White House counselor Dan Bartlett toldreporters. «He feels terrible about any disruption he mayhave caused.» Even while ill, Bush taped his radio address, met asplanned with France's new president and prepared for talksin Poland on a missile defense system. The president was already dressed when he began feelingill in the morning, Bartlett said. The aide said Bush'sillness was «probably more viral in nature» and did notappear to be the result of anything he ate at the summit ofeight industrialized democracies being held at a luxuryresort here. Bush stayed in bed for several hours to rest andrecuperate. He missed one session with African leaders andanother with leaders from China, India, Brazil, Mexico andSouth Africa, all developing nations, not G-8 members. He returned to the talks in time for the closing lunch. Bush was «fully expected» to keep to his original travelitinerary, Bartlett said.
