SCO expands cooperation in fight against terrorism in Central Asia

TASHKENT, Mar 28, SPA -- The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) is expanding cooperation in the fight against terrorism, separatism and extremism in the Central Asian region, reported Itar-Tass. "It is necessary to do our utmost to implement the program for cooperation of the SCO member-states in the fight against terrorism, separatism and extremism for 2007-2009 that was adopted at the SCO summitin Shanghai on June 15, 2006," Russian Federal Security Service First Deputy Director, Sergei Smirnov, who chairs the executive council of the SCO regional anti-terrorist structure, said on Wednesday. He pointed out that it is necessary to reform the SCO regional anti-terrorist structure and define prospects for stronger cooperation in ensuring regional security.
