China, Japan, South Korea concerned over progress on nuclear talks

CEBU, Philippines, Jan 14, SPA -- Leaders of China, Japan and South Korea expressed concern over North Korea's nuclear test, and called for «effective steps» to break a standoff in talks to de-nuclearize the Korean peninsula, a joint statement said Sunday. The leaders also reaffirmed the need to fully implementU.N. sanctions against Pyongyang, «as well as theircommitment of the peaceful resolution of the nuclear issue on the Korean peninsula through dialogue and negotiation,» said the statement. The statement was issued after a one-day summit between South Korea's President Roh Moo-hyun, Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, the Associated Press reported.--SPA www.spa.gov.sa/417853
