Washington, DEC 29, SPA -- White House homeland security adviser Fran Townsend said today that Americans should not fear a terrorist attack on New Year s Eve. People ought to come, have a good time, they ought to feel confident, Townsend said. She said that the government takes every threat seriously, and it has heard of not plan that is particularly alarming. We don t see any specific up-tick in threats, Townsend said. I think it s hard to tell how it plays. Townsend said she and her staff have been cooperating closely with local law enforcement agencies in preparation for New Year s Eve celebrations. Townsend spent a day in New York City with it s police commissioner, Ray Kelly. They laid out what their security plan in, Townsend said. New York is a model of how a large city, an urban government, approaches this. Townsend was confident that security officials had all situations under control. Everybody in law enforcement works on New Year s Eve, she said. We feel real confident of the steps police departments are taking. --SPA www.spa.gov.sa/414674
