Fighting, bomb blast kill 7 in Afghanistan

KANDAHAR, Sept 16, SPA _ About 60 suspected Talibanattacked a police checkpoint in southern Afghanistan, sparking a battle in which four insurgents died, police said, while a blast near the capital Saturday left three security guards dead. NATO and Afghan soldiers came to the aid of police afterthe insurgents attacked the checkpoint near the districtpolice headquarters Friday in Khas Uruzgan district ofsouthern Uruzgan province, said Mohammad Zahir, thedistrict police chief. There were no casualties among the Afghan security forces or NATO. Police recovered the bodies of four suspected Taliban along with their weapons, Zahir was quoted as saying by the Associated Press.
