COLOMBO, Sri Lanka, Jan 21, SPA -- Army troops killed at least 18 Tamil Tigers in clashes in eastern Sri Lanka on Sunday, and found the bodies of 22 other rebels killed in earlier battles, the military said. Military spokesman Brig. Prasad Samarasinghe said soldiers killed at least 18 insurgents who were trying to flee into a rebel-held jungle in eastern Batticaloa district on Sunday morning. Separately, he said troops found the bodies of 22 rebels, victims of an army assault on several rebel bases in the past week in Kathiraveli, another eastern rebel-stronghold.
