Tel Aviv, Dec 25, SPA -- Israeli Defense Minister Amir Peretz told a parliamentary panel on Monday that he has ordered the army to prepare to soon dismantle 59 of the roughly 400 checkpoints restricting Palestinian travel in the West Bank, a member of the committee said. Peretz gave no timetable in his appearance beforeparliament's Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee,lawmaker Limor Livant told The Associated Press. The easing of travel restrictions is part of a package ofgoodwill gestures Israel is extending toward thePalestinians, the Associated Press reported. Peretz told the panel that the dismantling would occur in two stages, Livnat said.
