BAGHDAD, Iraq, Aug 29, SPA -- U.S. Attorney General Alberto Gonzales, a key architect of U.S. policy on the treatment of prisoners and the rule of law in Iraq, met on Tuesday with Iraq's deputy prime minister at the start of a one-day visit to Baghdad. Gonzales, a former White House counsel, met Barham Saleh in the heavily fortified Green Zone in the center of the city. He was later to visit the Iraqi High Tribunal to meet with officials there, U.S. embassy spokeswoman Elizabeth Colton was quoted as saying by the Associated Press. The tribunal is currently trying former leader SaddamHussein and six other defendants on charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity.
