U.N. Security Council Extends Hariri Probe Mandate

United Nations, June 16, SPA -- The U.N. Security Council voted unanimously on Thursday to extend for one year the investigation into the assassination of former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafik Hariri and to expand the probe to include other assassinations carried out in Lebanon since late 2004. The resolution, drafted by the United States, France, and Britain, extends the mandate of the commission until June 15, 2007, and “authorizes the commission, as it deems appropriate, to further extend its technical assistance to the Lebanese authorities with regard to their investigations into the other terrorist attacks perpetrated in Lebanon since 1 October 2004.” --SPA 16/06/2006 13:08 ت م www.spa.gov.sa/369042
