Baghdad, July 21, SPA -- Two suicide car bombings, along witha string of other attacks, in and around Baghdad Thursdayhave left 15 people dead, AP quoted police and army officials as saying. A suicide car bomber rammed into an Iraqi army checkpointsouth of Baghdad, killing six soldiers in Mahmoudiyah,about 30 kilometers (19 miles) south of the capital.Thirteen other people, including five civilians, wereinjured, according to army Lt. Odai al-Zeiadi. A second Iraqi army checkpoint in the southern Baghdadsuburb of Bueitha was also hit by a suicide car bomber,killing one soldier, al-Zeiadi said. Six other soldierswere injured, he said. Unidentified gunmen assassinated three members of theQadisiyah provincial council as they were heading to anInternet cafe in the western neighborhood of Khadhra, saidpolice 1st Lt. Mohammad Al-Hiyali. In Baghdad's Shiite enclave of Sadr City, an employee ofthe Ministry of Trade was killed in a drive-by shooting,said police 1st Lt. Talib Naim said. «Salman Lazim Shikara was heading to work when gunmen ina speeding car sprayed him with machine guns inside hiscar,» Naim said.
