BAGHDAD, Iraq, Dec 24, SPA -- Gunmen tried to assassinate aninvestigative judge on the Iraqi Special Tribunal that isinvestigating Saddam Hussein and members of his regime, aspokesman for the court said Saturday. The attempt against Judge Munir Hadad took place Friday ashe was being escorted by a security convoy throughBaghdad's western neighborhood of Ghazaliya, said theofficial, who asked not to be named because he was notauthorized to speak to the media. No one was injured in theattack and some of the vehicles were damaged, the Associated Press quoted the spokesman as saying. Hadad's exact role on the tribunal was unclear. There areabout 20 investigative judges and up to 20 prosecutors onthe tribunal.
