United Nations, June 7, SPA -- U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan's top envoy for the implementation of Security Council resolution 1559 will travel to Syria "as soon as possible" to meet with Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad, U.N. spokesman Stephane Dujarric said today. Security Council resolution 1559, which outlined the Syrian pullout from Lebanon as well as the disbanding of foreign and domestic militias, was only partially satisfied with the Syrian troop pullout at the end of May. "The secretary-general expects that the U.N. and the government of Syria will continue to work closely together to ensure the full implementation of Security Council resolution 1559," Dujarric told reporters. The spokesman declined to give any specifics on U.N. envoy Terje Roed-Larsen's travel to the region, saying, "The implementation of 1559 in its many facets is still ongoing. We have no specific details."--SPA1103 Local Time 0803 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/267999
