April 30 Damascus, April 3, SPA -- U.N. envoy Terje Roed-Larsen saidSunday the Syrian government pledged to remove all Syriantroops and intelligence agents completely from Lebanon byApril 30 at the latest. Roed-Larsen made the announcement in a statement after ameeting with President Bashar Assad and Foreign MinisterFarouk al-Sharaa. "Foreign Minister al-Sharaa also informed me that allSyrian troops, military assets and the intelligenceapparatus will have been withdrawn fully and completelylatest by 30 April, 2005," Roed-Larsen said in thestatement. "This commitment implies that all Syrian security forcesand equipment would have been withdrawn from Lebanon in thespirit of the Taif agreement and in full consistence withSecurity Council resolution 1559," he added.
