United Nations, Oct 21 (SPA) -- The U.N. Security Council on Friday urged the appointment by the end of this month of a powerful new Ivory Coast prime minister who is acceptable to the divided West African nation's rebels as well as its government. The plea was part of a resolution adopted unanimously by the 15-nation council that formally endorsed the plan of the African Union's Peace and Security Council to extend the Ivory Coast peace process for another year to give it more time to organize elections, Reuters reported. Under an earlier French-brokered peace deal, the elections were to have taken place by the end of October. The resolution extends that deadline for another year and clears the way for President Laurent Gbagbo, whom the rebels want to resign at the end of the month, to remain in office until a new government is elected. But in a bid to keep the rebels involved in the process, the AU plan obliges Gbagbo to name a new prime minister with "full authority over his or her cabinet." --SPA 1501 Local Time 1201 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/297894
