Iraq to step up security for defense lawyers in Saddam's trial

Baghdad, Iraq, Oct 22, SPA -- Iraq's interim government saidSaturday it will step up security for the defense lawyersin Saddam Hussein's trial, after one of them was kidnappedat his office in Baghdad and killed by gunmen disguised assecurity forces. The body of the Sunni Arab defense lawyer, SaadounSughaiyer al-Janabi, was found dumped in a street of thecapital on Friday with two bullet wounds in the head, hoursafter the gunmen took him from his office. That prompted the surviving defense lawyers to demandbetter security. "We have decided to take some measures to protect thelawyers. We cannot give any details regarding thosemeasures for security reasons," Gen. Hussein Ali Kamal, adeputy minister in the Interior Ministry, told TheAssociated Press on Saturday.
