Sudanese government, opposition sign reconciliation accord in Cairo

Cairo, June 18, SPA -- The Sudanese government signed areconciliation agreement with one of its largest oppositiongroupings Saturday, ending a 16-year conflict with a dealofficials hope will help resolve the country's worstconflict in Darfur, The Associated Press reported. The accord was signed with the National DemocraticAlliance, an umbrella group that includes 13 politicalparties and other professional and trade unions and has anarmed wing that the government wants to absorb into thenational army. "We've put our hands together and unified our goals tocompensate the people of Sudan for all what they've missedon during the era of conflicts," said Sudanese PresidentOmar el-Bashir at a signing ceremony attended by EgyptianPresident Hosni Mubarak in Cairo.
