Prince Talal praises role of women in all civil societies

Tunis, Nov 2, SPA -- Prince Talal bin Abdulaziz, the President of AGFUND, and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Arab Woman Center for Training and Research, said the Center is one of the pioneering centers not only at the Arab arena, but also at the international arena. Addressing a press conference here on Monday, Prince Talal underlined the importance of the civil society, and said it constitutes the supporter for the governments. He noted that all international conventions stipulate the importance of recognition of the rights of women, and added 'we, in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, have singed the agreement of Non-Discrimination Against Women and the UN's resolutions in this respect'. 'Steps have been undertaken in the Kingdom as regards the rights of women', he said. On the Iraqi problem, Prince Talal said 'we are keen on preservation of the independence and unity of Iraq, and we are keen on a democratic Iraq that recognizes the human rights'. Prince Talal described Iraq as one of the most important Arab and third world countries because it enjoys tremendous human and natural resources.
