Washington, Jan 25, SPA -- A top official at the U.S. State Department traveled to Brussels on Monday to discuss the prospects for Middle East peace with other members of the Quartet. William Burns, assistant secretary for Near Affairs, was scheduled to meet with his counterparts from the European Union, Russia and the United Nations, said department spokesman Adam Ereli during a press briefing. Burns is also scheduled to visit Israel, Egypt and the Palestinian territories, Ereli added. "The purpose of this visit is to work with all parties to seek to capitalize on the opportunity we have with a new Palestinian government to move forward on the road map," Ereli said. The "road map" refers to an agreement signed by Israel and the Palestinians in April 2003 to have separate states. --SPA 1118 Local Time 0818 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/234720
