Pakistan renews call for talks with India ahead of Kashmir

remembrance day Islamabad, Feb 4, SPA -- Pakistan's president Fridayrenewed a call for dialogue with nuclear-armed rival Indiaover Kashmir, but said he would continue to provide"moral, diplomatic and political" backing to Kashmiriswho have been striving to win freedom or merge with thisIslamic nation. In a message delivered on the eve of what is known inPakistan as "Kashmir Solidarity Day," President Gen.Pervez Musharraf said his country would not waver in itssupport for Kashmiris fighting Indian rule. Saying "their goals are our goals.... their dreams areour dreams," he assured Kahsmiris that Pakistan wouldcontinue efforts for the resolution of Kashmir issue. "On the occasion of the Kashmir Solidarity Day, I assureour Kashmiri brethren that at this critical juncture ofhistory, they have the full moral, diplomatic and politicalsupport of the government and people of Pakistan." However, Musharraf said a "just and lasting solution tothe Kashmir dispute" could only be found through a processof dialogue with New Delhi. "It was with this resolve and purpose in mind that weembarked on the composite dialogue process with India lastyear.
