Rome to hold demonstration for release of Italian hostage in Iraq

Rome, Feb 19, SPA -- As many as 200,000 people were expected tomarch in Rome Saturday to demand the release of an Italianjournalist kidnapped in Iraq earlier this month. The rally had already been planned days before a shockedItaly on Wednesday watched a video showing the captive,56-year-old Giuliana Sgrena, pleading for her life anddemanding that Italians pressure their government towithdraw Italy's 3,000-strong military contingent fromIraq. Sgrena was abducted in Baghdad on Feb. 4. On Wednesday, ina video delivered anonymously to Associated PressTelevision News, she was shown tearful and distraught asshe begged for Italians to help obtain her freedom.
