Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, March 15, SPA -- African Union officialsdiscussed sending troops to eastern Congo to forciblydisarm thousands of Rwandans linked to their country's 1994genocide. At a two-day meeting that began Tuesday, officials wereconsidering three options for disarming an estimated 10,000to 14,000 Rwandan rebels in Congo. African could work alone or tackle the rebels with thehelp of U.N. peacekeepers who are already in Congo or withCongolese forces. "Short of nothing is being done and there is no otheroption than to make a forceful disarmament of the" rebels,said AU's Peace and Security Commissioner Said Djinnit."Africa is ready to provide troops for that forcefuldisarmament.
