WANA, Nov 9, SPA -- Pakistani troops backed by helicopter gunships clashed with suspected militants, killing six fighters and losing two of their soldiers Tuesday in a tribal region where hundreds of foreignfighters are believed to be hiding, an army spokesman said. Several other soldiers were wounded in the offensive thatbegan late Monday northeast of Wana, the main town in theSouth Waziristan region bordering Afghanistan, Maj. Gen.Shaukat Sultan told The Associated Press from Rawalpindi, acity where the army is headquartered.
