Islamabad, Dec 14, SPA -- Pakistani and Indian officialson Tuesday launched two-day talks on how to avoid anaccidental nuclear war between them, the foreign ministrysaid. The talks are the second time since June that the twosides have met to discuss their nuclear weapons. India andPakistan also have launched a broader effort to resolvelong-running disputes, including their competing claimsover the Himalayan region of Kashmir. Pakistan Foreign Ministry spokesman Masood Khan toldreporters the two sides were discussing "new safeguards toavoid any accidental nuclear war" _ including givingadvance notification of missile tests. Both delegations expressed optimism. "We are happy to bein Islamabad," said Meera Shanker, head of the Indiandelegation. "We are in favor of result-oriented talks."
