Palestinian Parliament approves new Cabinet of professional appointees

Ramallah, West Bank, Feb 24, SPA -- The Palestinian parliament on Thursday approved a Cabinet dominated by professionalappointees, including nearly half with doctoral degrees, ina major move toward long-promised government reform. The Parliament's approval was through 54-12 vote, and with four abstentions. Among the key appointments are Nasser Yousef as interior minister who would oversee security reform. Nasser Al-Kidwa, the former Palestinian representative to the United Nations was chosen as foreignminister. Salam Fayyad, the Palestinians' widely respected financeminister for the last three years, will keep his job.
