Astana, Kazakhstan, Sept 20, SPA -- Kazakhstan signed deals during a visit Monday by South Korean President Roh Moo-hyun todeliver uranium to South Korea and for both countries toexplore greater oil-sector cooperation. Kazakhstan agreed to deliver up to 1,000 tons of uranium ayear to South Korea. Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayevsaid this could possibly lead to larger shipments in thefuture. "This is about a quarter of (South Korea's) needs ofuranium, and we are ready to increase its component," Nazarbayev told journalists. The countries also signed an agreement noting South Koreancompanies' interest in helping refine Kazakhstan's CaspianSea oil resources, and in developing infrastructure there.Nazarbayev said a contract outlining the specific nature ofthe work would be signed later. Kazakhstan aims to be one of the world's largest oilexporters within the next two decades. Roh said South Korea wants to boost its investment inKazakhstan, particularly in information technology and roadconstruction, and said the current level of trade wasinadequate.
