says Amsterdam, Aug 20, SPA -- Dutch troops in southernIraq on Friday killed two men in a car who they said hadfired at them, the Defense Ministry said. The two men fired on a Dutch military patrol in the Iraqicity of Samawah just before midnight (2000GMT) Thursday,army spokeswoman Gwendolyn Rahusan said. The car veered off the road and crashed, the spokeswomansaid. It was not immediately clear whether the men werekilled by the crash or by gunfire. Japan's Kyodo news agency quoted Iraqi police as sayingthe men were unarmed, but Rahusan said the men fired smallcaliber firearms, which were recovered from the vehicle. No Dutch troops were wounded, she said. The Defense Ministry announced Wednesday that theNetherlands will send an additional 60 troops and severalarmored vehicles to reinforce its 1,400-strong contingentin Iraq in response to a weekend attack in which a Dutchmilitary policeman was killed.
