Poland plans to scale down the number of troops it has inIraq once more responsibilities are handed over to a localforce, which is expected to take place early next year. Following the deaths of the soldiers, the eighth and ninthPolish military fatalities in Iraq, Defense Minister JerzySzmajdzinski urged NATO members to "fully meet theircommitments and energetically start training and equippingthe Iraqi army to allow it to take over tasks from thecoalition," the Polish news agency PAP reported. "There is nothing more important now," Szmajdzinskisaid. The two soldiers were killed and five others injured whena routine road patrol came under fire at around 7.15 a.m.local time in Hillah, in south-central Iraq, said Col.Zdzislaw Gnatowski, spokesman for the Polish army chief ofstaff. As the two vehicles sped away to escape, one of thePolish-made "Honker" jeeps overturned and the second onedrove into it, said multinational force commander PolishMaj. Gen.
