Moscow, Aug 31, SPA -- Russia's Supreme Court on Tuesday upheld the 20-year prison sentence of a Chechen woman convicted in an apparently aborted suicide bombing attempt in central Moscow, the Interfax news agency reported. Zarema Muzhakhoyeva was arrested in July 2003 after herstrange behavior attracted the attention of security guardsat a restaurant, and a bomb was found in her purse. A bombexpert was brought in to defuse it, but it went off andkilled him. A Moscow court found her guilty of terrorism, attemptedmurder and illegal possession of explosives and sentencedher in April to 20 years in prison. Muzhakhoyeva's lawyersappealed the ruling, asking the Supreme Court to quash thesentence and send the case back to the court for a newtrial. They cited her aid to the investigation in their requestfor leniency, Russian news agencies reported. Based ontestimony after her arrest, security officials located ahouse in the Moscow region where bombers' explosives wereassembled. The Interfax news agency did not give the court's reasonsfor rejecting the appeal.--SPA1419 Local Time 1119 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/196746
