Katmandu, Nepal, Sept 1, SPA -- Thousands of demonstrators ransacked a mosque and clashed with police in the capitalWednesday to protest the killing of 12 Nepalese hostages byIraqi militants. Hours after the rioting broke out, the government imposeda curfew in Katmandu. A government notice warned curfewviolators would be shot on sight. "We want revenge," protesters shouted as they stormedthe Jame mosque _ the only Muslim house of worship in thecapital. They broke windows and set fire to carpets,furniture and parts of the building. No one was inside atthe time. Police fired tear gas in an unsuccessful attempt todisperse the mob. In other parts of Katmandu, protesters blamed thegovernment for not doing enough to secure the release ofthe 12 Nepalese contract workers, who were slain by theirIraqi captors.
