Kabul, Safar 5, 1434, Dec 18, 2012, SPA - German President Joachim Gauck was received with military honors when he arrived Tuesday at the Presidential Palace in Kabul. He met his Afghan counterpart, Hamid Karzai, for talks on civil and development cooperation after the scheduled withdrawal of international troops in 2014. Gauck was also due to meet Muslim religious scholars, according to a report of DPA. Bad weather delayed the German president's arrival from the northern Afghan city of Mazar-e Sharif. He arrived Monday and visited the German base at Mazar-e Sharif, where 2,000 of the German military contingent of 4,500 personnel are based. --SPA 13:06 LOCAL TIME 10:06 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/1060266
