United Nations, Ramadan 12, 1433, Jul 31, 2012, SPA - U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said Monday a convoy carrying the head of the U.N. Supervision Mission in Syria (UNSMIS), Gen. Babacar Gaye, came under attack on Sunday, and the U.N. chief reiterated his call on the Syrian government to stop using heavy weapons in civilian areas. “It is important, again and again, that the Syrian government must fully cooperate with the U.N. Mission, and must cease these violent measures,” the secretary-general told reporters in New York City. “We are deeply concerned that they are using all sorts, all kinds of heavy equipment, including military airplanes and attack helicopters and heavy weaponry. This is an unacceptable situation,” Ban said. --SPA 12:18 LOCAL TIME 09:18 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/1019307
