Dakar, Jumada I 3, 1433, Mar 26, 2012, SPA - Senegal's newly elected president, Macky Sall, celebrated his victory early Monday by declaring a "new era" and vowing to work for his nation and Africa. "Tonight, a new era begins in Senegal," he said in a speech to the nation. "Together, we will get to work and start what is expected by and for all, for Senegal and for Africa." He said his campaign rival and the incumbent, Abdoulaye Wade, telephoned him Sunday night to congratulate him. At that time, Sall had about 30,000 votes to Wade's 11,000 in Sunday's runoff vote, according to state broadcaster RTS. Sall, who read out his speech in French as well as Senegal's ethnic languages of Wolof and Poular, thanked Wade for his call as well as "all our African brothers and those from other nations for their interest in Senegal," according to a report of DPA. --SPA 11:05 LOCAL TIME 08:05 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/982958
