RIYADH: AlUla’s spectacular landscapes, captivating history and rich local culture have left a lasting impression on Liselotte Plesner, ambassador of Denmark to Saudi Arabia. From the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Hegra and awe-inspiring Elephant Rock, also known as Jabal Al-Fil, to the array of challenging hiking and rock-climbing activities, hot air balloon rides and vibrant urban scenes, AlUla is a testament to the changing landscape of heritage tourism in the Kingdom. Plesner, who is on a trip to the western regions of Saudi Arabia, said in a series of tweets: “I had no idea of the beauty of #KSA.” Sharing pictures of the area’s historical landmarks, the ambassador said: “Now I know why the first question I get from most Saudis is ‘Have you been to #AlUla #KSA’. “#AlUla #KSA keeps surprising. At the #Dadan site our knowledgeable guide explained how she as an AlUla girl used to play in the very spot where a temple has now been discovered,” she said, adding: “Sheer beauty #AlUla #KSA.” Dadan was one of the most developed cities in northern Arabia in the first millennium B.C. due to its proximity to incense trade routes. After a visit to the Royal Commission for AlUla, Plesner wrote: “Energy is radiating from #RoyalCommissionAlUla office with CEO @AmrAlMadani at the helm. #AlUla is a must visit. Grateful to RCU for an out of this world tour.” Wrapping up the AlUla trip, she tweeted: “Bye, bye magic, spectacular #AlUla. Air balloons out early morning for breathtaking tours. #KSA road trip continues north.” On her northward trip, Plesner was received by Prince Fahd bin Sultan bin Abdulaziz, governor of the Tabuk region. During the meeting, they exchanged cordial talks and discussed issues of common interest. “Had a warm conversation and reception with Prince Fahad bin Sultan bin Abdulaziz, #Governor of #Tabuk region. We had great discussions and agreed to strengthen the relations between #Denmark and #SaudiArabia,” Plesner tweeted after the meeting.
