Cairo, Oct. 16, 2022, SPA -- The Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia participated in the 5th Cairo Water Week, held under the slogan "Water at the Heart of Climate Action”. The four-day event starte today in Egypt with the participation of 16 ministerial delegations, 54 senior officials, 66 international organizations and more than a thousand participants. Saudi Arabia’s delegation is headed by the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture for Water Affairs Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Shaibani, including representatives from the Saline Water Conversion Corporation (SWCC), and the Saudi Irrigation Organization, to enrich the week’s discussions on the effects of climate change on the water sector, climate challenges and their impact on the water sector, to serve as an event in preparation for water activities during the upcoming climate conference (COP27). The Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture is taking part in various sessions in the events, where Dr. Al-Shaibani participated in a session on innovation for sustainable water management, and how to benefit from innovation in accelerating the achievement of sustainable development goals related to water, while SWCC participated in a platform within the exhibition held on the sidelines of the events, where it presented its leading global experience as the largest desalinated water producer in the world and the least energy consuming. The 5th Cairo Water Week aims to integrate water issues into climate action, promote innovations to confront urgent water challenges in an unconventional manner using modern technology, support and implement integrated water management policies, and reach sustainable solutions to manage water resources to confront population growth and climate change. The Cairo Water Week includes several high-level sessions, technical discussions and workshops, presentations and participations of prominent international speakers, scientific research by experts, professors, students, university graduates, and school students, and holding of many competitions, where the last round of political dialogue will be held on "achieving sustainable development goals in regions water scarcity”, as it aims to suggest proposals to accelerate the implementation of the sustainable development goals, especially in the African continent, in preparation for the UN Conference on the Midterm Comprehensive Review of the Implementation of the Objectives of the International Decade for Action in March 2023. --SPA 23:25 LOCAL TIME 20:25 GMT 0034 www.spa.gov.sa/w1798961
