Algiers, October 28, 2022, SPA -- The Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, called today for the formulation of an integrated Arab vision to meet the challenges of food security in the region. Aboul Gheit said, in a speech he delivered during the opening of the Economic and Social Council meeting at the ministerial level, preparatory to the 31st Arab Summit, which will be hosted by Algeria on 1 and 2 November that Arab food security indicators have deteriorated worryingly, not only because of the pandemic and the subsequent events, but also because of the coincidence of many factors and the accumulation of many problems. The Secretary-General of the League of Arab States stressed that confronting these conditions is through reaching a comprehensive vision to reach the desired food sufficiency, and to bridge the food gap in the Arab world, with an integrative approach and a vision based on mobilizing Arab capabilities. He pointed to some items of the meeting of the Arab Economic and Social Council today, Friday, that will address the issue of Arab food security with this integrated approach, including the Arab strategy for sustainable agricultural development, the initiative to improve the technological quality of locally produced wheat, and the sustainability of Arab pastures. --SPA 17:11 LOCAL TIME 14:11 GMT 0013 www.spa.gov.sa/w1805061
