Rome, August 21, 2022, SPA -- An earthquake with a magnitude of 4.2 was registered on the Italian island of Sicily on Sunday morning, the dpa reported. The quake's epicentre was at a depth of some 4 kilometres and located some 80 kilometres south of the island's capital, Palermo, according to the civil defence agency. There were no initial reports of damage or injuries. People in the affected region of the popular holiday island would have noticed the earthquake, the agency said. The fire department sent a helicopter to assess the situation from the air. Earthquakes are common in the Mediterranean Sea around Italy, on the islands and on the mainland, although these are often so weak that people do not even notice them. --SPA 12:06 LOCAL TIME 09:06 GMT 0007 www.spa.gov.sa/w1775158
