Shura Council Participates in Arab Women Parliamentarian Forum

Riyadh, September 16, 2021, SPA -- The two-day Arab Women Parliamentarian Forum, organized by the Jordanian Lower House under the theme “Women’s participation in Arab parliaments,” concluded virtually today with the participation of the Shura Council, represented by member of the Health Committee Dr. Muna Abdullah Al Mushayt. Dr. Al Mushayt, during a paper presented at the event, showcased support that Saudi woman receive under the leadership of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Crown Prince, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense. She noted that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has focused on women education, pointing out that Saudi Arabia is the first at the Arab level and tenth globally in terms of educated women rate with over 91%. In this regard, she explained that women constitute more than 60% of university students, especially that there is a university that is one of the biggest in the world dedicated for women. Dr. Al Mushayt noted that education opportunities and scholarships that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has provided for dozens of thousands of Saudi women in qualitative specializations in developed countries, such as the U.S., Europe, and Australia, have had the biggest impact on enhancing the status and role of women and empowering them in several fields. She also commended the contributions of Saudi women in the Shura Council, adding that the women participation in the Shura Council started in 2013 with appointing 30 women, making Saudi women account for 20% of the Council’s seats. --SPA 15:42 LOCAL TIME 12:42 GMT 0014 www.spa.gov.sa/w1619071
