Riyadh, August 08, 2021, SPA -- Saudi newspapers highlighted in their editorials today a number of issues at local, regional and international arenas. Al-Riyadh newspaper reported in its editorial that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has a pioneering experience in combating terrorism. Additionally, the success achieved in this regard exceeded all expectations, making the experience a model for how to combat this ideology in order to reach a safe, strong and peaceful society. In this regard, the Director of the United Nations Center for Counter-Terrorism (UNCCT), Dr. Jehangir Khan, stated that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s experience in confronting terrorism and extremism is an example for all countries. Saudi Arabia’s role in combating terrorism is not a domestic one, but it extends and covers different areas. The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia played an important role in establishing the UNCCT. UNCCT was established in 2011 with the generous support of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, a total contribution of USD 110 million. The center was established to promote international counter-terrorism cooperation, the newspaper said. The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s success in combating terrorism is based on a belief that extremism and terrorism are the main enemy of the development and stability of any society in the world, where the success of development plans depends on countries’ ability to protect their assets and citizens from the risks of this ideology. Therefore, Saudi Vision 2030 achieved more than the expected success since in the Saudi environment everyone is determined to achieve further progress and prosperity, the newspaper concluded. In another context, Al-Yaum newspaper reported in its editorial that reaching herd immunity is a main goal in Saudi Arabia in light of the start of a new academic year, where teachers and students will go back to schools, according to the requirements announced by competent authorities. The newspaper added that the decrease in reported cases in the Kingdom is a result of the unremitting efforts being exerted since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. Additionally, all these tremendous efforts are exerted to preserve the health of all people and the Saudi government provided the free vaccines for all citizens and residents, the newspaper added. According to the Ministry of Health's latest statistics, 850 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 have been recorded on Saturday in the Kingdom. This decrease in reported cases is a result of strict implementation of precautionary and preventive measures. The newspaper concluded that with all efforts exerted by the government, people must continue to fully adhere to precautionary and preventive measures and to eliminate any laxity in applying health requirements. Additionally, vaccination contributes to achieving community immunity and returning to normal life. --SPA 09:43 LOCAL TIME 06:43 GMT 0010 www.spa.gov.sa/w1597815
