Riyadh, May 05, 2021, SPA -- The National Committee on Geographical Names, headquartered at King Abdulaziz Foundation for Research and Archives (Darah), represented the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia at the Second Conference of the United Nations Group of Experts on Geographical Names, which is being held in New York during the period from 3-7/5/2021. The committee delivered the speech of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in the conference titled: (Impact of Using Geographical Names Database in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in Facing COVID-19 Epidemic). The committee disclosed that the Ministry of Health of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia used the interactive maps based on the database of the geographical names to identify the locations of the potential risk for the spread of the novel Coronavirus at the level of administrative regions, governorates, villages and cities. It added that the Saudi Ministry of Health also launched a Saudi local platform developed by the National Center for Disease Prevention and Control (Weqaya), which shows the numbers of infections with regard to a country and compares cases in the Kingdom with the cases outside. The applications developed by the National Committee on Geographical Names for iOS and Android systems helped to identify some of the remote and difficult locations that are difficult to find on other maps. --SPA 23:20 LOCAL TIME 20:20 GMT 0045 www.spa.gov.sa/w1554290
