Dr. Manzalawi: Saudi Arabia Seeks to Spare Region Any Unilateral Action on Renaissance Dam

New York, July 02 , 2020, SPA -- Deputy Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the United Nations, Dr. Khalid bin Muhammad Manzalawi, participated yesterday evening in the virtual meeting of the Arab Mini-Committee with UN's Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres. During the meeting, they discussed ways to find out a solution to the Renaissance Dam crisis between Egypt, Sudan, and Ethiopia. Dr. Manzalawi explained to the Secretary-General that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has distinguished relations with all parties concerned, pointing to the mandate of the League of Arab States to follow up developments in the matter in the Security Council, in order to reach an agreement that guarantees the rights and interests of all parties. He stressed the importance of water security for both Egypt and Sudan, and rejected any action that would affects the rights of all parties in the waters of the Nile, stressing the need to resume negotiations in good-faith in order to reach fair agreement that takes into account the interests of all to spare the region any serious escalation in the future. Dr. Manzalawi pointed out that the Middle East region is witnessing many conflicts that threaten regional peace and security, and that the meeting of the members of the Arab Committee with the UN Secretary-General aims at taking further measures to strengthen preventive measures and launch a peaceful initiative to resolve outstanding differences, urging all parties to continue negotiations. -- SPA 09:05 LOCAL TIME 06:05 GMT 0002 www.spa.gov.sa/w1362902
