KSA Stresses Importance of Strengthening Int'l Cooperation to Ban Weapons of Mass Destruction, Prevent their Proliferation

The Hague, Mar 13, 2020, SPA -- The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) reaffirmed that it attaches great importance to implementing its obligations under the Chemical Weapons Convention, in line with its belief in the objectives of the convention, based on its firm and policy aiming to enhance cooperation to ban weapons of mass destruction and prevent their proliferation, and the need to seek the universality of the convention for its role in promoting international peace and security, urging countries that have not joined the Chemical Weapons Convention to accelerate accession to it, in order to achieve the goals of the ultimate goals of the convention (organization). This came in the speech of the Kingdom’s delegation participating in the 93th session of the Executive Council of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons delivered by the Saudi Ambassador the Netherlands and the Kingdom’s delegate to the organization Abdulaziz bin Abdullah Abu Hamid. The ambassador pointed out that despite the progress achieved in the destruction of Syrian chemical weapons, the disparity and inconsistency, in Syria's initial declaration and its subsequent statements raise many questions, calling on the Syrian authorities to cooperate with the ad evaluation team and with the technical secretariat of the organization to implement all decisions related to the use of chemical weapons, in Syria, foremost among them is the decision of the Conference of the Parties, at its fourth special session, entitled to address the threat posed by the use of chemical weapons. -- SPA 21:12 LOCAL TIME 18:12 GMT 0012 www.spa.gov.sa/w1287784
