The landmines didn’t only kill Ahmad's dream but also many innocent children, women and elderly civilians. Taiba Mohammad Mahyoub (18 years old) is trying to understand what she did to deserve losing her leg. She says:" I live in Jabal Habshi in Taiz, Yemen. We have a lot of cattle behind our house, I wake up with the break of dawn, have a little to eat then go to the backyard to look after the cattle and at the same time nurture my dreams with the cattle which became a friend of mine. I talk to them tell them about the dreams of an 18 year old who sees life in bright colors and looking forward to a bright ambitious future". Taiba adds:" One morning I left my house with the stick I use to look after the cattle as usual yet an unusual thing happened, I stepped into what I thought a pile of grass but it was turned out to be a landmine. I screamed and my cattle screamed with me, they stepped into the landmine as well". She continues:" I remember vividly, the grass was green and I stepped into the wet grass, I never thought someone would be so cruel to the innocent and civilians to plant landmines next to our house disguised as rocks, plants and trees. It was like they were intentionally placed to target the innocent and even the cattle". Hayat Hmoud Murshid (60 years old) had her own experience with the landmine nightmare, she stepped into one planted on her doorstep. She describes what happened saying:" In spite of my age, losing my foot is very devastating. I have 10 sons and daughters and I'm raising my grandchildren, I didn’t do anything to deserve losing my leg, I am an elderly women and I don’t understand why those land mines too close to our houses and our children. I am not able to look after my grandchildren like I used to. I hope Allah will reward me for all the pain I'm going through because of my leg, as I am hiding this pain from my grandchildren". --SPA 14:11 LOCAL TIME 11:11 GMT 0014 www.spa.gov.sa/w707304
