The next stages of the complicated operation have gone smoothly as planned by doctors, reported Dr. Saud Al-Jadaan, pediatrics consultant, adding that the twins were sharing too many adjoining organs. For instance, they have too much adjoining intestines, but the amount of the organ made it possible for surgeons to solve the problem, he added. The separation of the intestines and colon was successfully performed, the doctor said. For his part, Dr. Ahmed Al-Shammari, Consultant Surgeon of urinary passages, said that this stage was done on two phases, the first one is to separate the adjacent kidneys and the second one is to put the two bladders apart. Following the separation of the lower organs, the operation entered the last stage of rehabilitation, Dr. Mohammed Al-Namshan, Chief of the pediatrics surgery department at King Abdullah specialist hospital for children, said adding that the operation was successful. Dr. Ayman Hussein Jawadi, pediatrics consultant, said that, given that each of the patients has a complete lower organ but shares an immature organ in terms of nerves, muscles and arteries, doctors unanimously decided to remove this organ and use part of the skin as patch. He said each of the children was moved to a separate bed to complete the rehabilitation operation. --SPA 18:41 LOCAL TIME 15:41 GMT 0024 www.spa.gov.sa/w1210431
