Five killed in New Caledonia landslides

Sydney, Safar 23, 1438, November 23, 2016, SPA -- At least five people, including two children, were killed and three others were missing in New Caledonia following landslides triggered by heavy rain, Radio New Zealand reported Wednesday, according to dpa. The body of 60-year old woman was discovered Wednesday near Houailou on the east coast of the countrys's main island which was the area worst affected by torrential rain over the past two days. Two children, aged seven and eight, were also killed, the report said and at least eight others were injured. A search for three missing people was still ongoing, the report added. New Caledonia, a French territory in the Pacific Ocean has a population of 262,000.
