Al-Maalami said the confiscated weapons included, anti-tank Iranian-made missiles, thousands of rifles and Dragonov sniper weapons, AK-47 rifles, mortar pipes, missile shells, RPJ launchers and that most of the crew of the intercepted vessels were Iranians. He said that the trafficking of illegal weapons to the Houthi militia's and deposed Ali Saleh isn't only a violation of the UN Security Council resolutions, but also a real direct threat to the security of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Yemen and the region as well as the world peace and security. He added that the Kingdom confirms its right to take the appropriate measures to confront the threats posed by the Houthis and Saleh forces who are financed by Iran and that it would spare no effort to protect its security and integrity, Yemen and the region according to the UN charter and the international law. He went on to say that the Houthis and Saleh should be held responsible of their criminal and irresponsible behavior as silence would only encourage them to commit more violations that would pose threats to the security and safety of the people of Yemen, Saudi Arabia and the region. In addition, it would undermine the authenticity of the UN Security Council resolutions and increase derailing the political settlement of the crisis in Yemen, he added. Al-Maalami said that the Kingdom is calling upon the UN Security Council to shoulder its responsibility and take the appropriate and necessary measures against those who dare to foil the political transition process in Yemen and against those who breach the UN Security Council resolutions pertinent to the resolution No 2216, adopted by the council according to the 7th chapter of the UN charter. He urged the security council to take the necessary action to coerce Iran to commit itself to all security council resolutions and stop and desist from any illegal act in Yemen. He reiterated the support of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for the important work done by the UN envoy to Yemen Ismail Ould Alcheck Ahmed for the sake of reaching a comprehensive arrangement to end the conflict in Yemen according to the GCC initiative, the outcomes of the national dialogue in Yemen, its executive mechanism and relevant security council resolutions. In conclusion, he requested that the Kingdom's message be considered an official document of the security council. --SPA 15:54 LOCAL TIME 12:54 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w
