China boosts aid to Ebola fight; UN says appeal is half-funded

Beijing/New York, Muharram 7, 1436, Oct 31, 2014, SPA -- China boosted its aid to countries worst-hit by the Ebola outbreak to 750 million yuan (123 million dollars), a Foreign Ministry official said Friday, according to dpa. Beijing also pledged to increase the number of medical personnel it has in the region by 200, to a total of 700, said Lin Songtian, director of the ministry's Department for African Affairs. China is building a treatment centre in Liberia, which should be finished within a month, and sending 60 ambulances, 100 motorcycles, 10,000 health kits, protective clothing, hospital beds and small trucks to the region, he said. -- SPA 22:32 LOCAL TIME 19:32 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w
